as_topology_sources — Internet AS-level topologies from three data sources (2004)
- Description
Networks of the Internet at the level of Autonomous Systems (ASes), constructed by Mahadevan et al. at CAIDA from the three kinds of data most frequently used to study the AS-level topology: traceroute measurements, BGP routing data, and the WHOIS database. In all networks, nodes are ASes, and an undirected edge connects two ASes that are found to be directly connected (peering or exchanging traffic) according to the data source.
skitter: traceroute measurements of CAIDA's skitter monitors. The daily AS-level graphs of the 31 days of March 2004 were merged, after filtering AS-sets, multi-origin ASes and private ASes, and discarding indirect links.bgp_tables: snapshots of the BGP routing tables collected by RouteViews (University of Oregon), for the 31 days of March 2004, where two ASes are connected if they are adjacent in some AS path; AS-sets and private ASes were filtered and the daily graphs merged.bgp_updates: asbgp_tables, but from the BGP update messages (updates and withdrawals) collected by RouteViews in March 2004.whois: the RIPE WHOIS database dump of April 7, 2004, which covers primarily European networks. An AS $x$ declared in an "aut-num" record is connected to the ASes $y$ in its "import: from AS$y$" and "export: to AS$y$" policy lines. ASes that do not appear in the "aut-num" lines and private ASes were excluded. The source file includes 24 self-loops.
The networks have the following properties:
name: the AS number.
