baad_terrorist_orgs — Big Allied and Dangerous terrorist organisations (1998-2005)
- Description
Networks of 394 terrorist organisations from the Big Allied and Dangerous (BAAD) dataset, version 1, which contains a snapshot of terrorist organisations that perpetrated at least one attack between 1998 and 2005, built from the Terrorism Knowledge Base of the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT), with independent verification and coding (Asal and Rethemeyer, 2008).
locations: bipartite network of organisations and 65 countries or territories, described by the source as the locations of their attacks (each organisation is connected to exactly one location); the vertex propertyis_countrymarks the locations.co_location: one-mode projection connecting organisations based in the same location.
The organisations have the following vertex properties, with the variable names of the BAAD codebook:
fatalities19982005(number of fatalities caused, 1998-2005),statespond(state sponsorship),masterccode(Correlates of War code of the home country),orgage(age of the organisation),containrelig,containethno,leftnoreligethno,purerelig,pureethno,religethno,containrelig2,containethno2andislam(indicators of religious, ethno-nationalist and leftist ideologies, and their combinations),ordsize(ordinal size),degree(number of connections to other organisations, as given by the source) andterrstrong(control of territory). These properties are set only for the organisations (in the bipartite network, they are zero for the locations). Data distributed by the UCINET datasets collection (University of Manchester).1
