cs_phd — Theoretical computer science PhD genealogy (1996)

Description

Advisor-student relations among 1025 theoretical computer scientists, from the SIGACT Theoretical Computer Science Genealogy started by D. S. Johnson (1984) and maintained by I. Parberry (version of July 22, 1996). Each directed edge points from a PhD advisor to the student. The network is acyclic. A few nodes, labeled "---" or "?" in the source, represent persons whose names are unknown. The data were distributed on the Pajek datasets page of the book Exploratory Social Network Analysis with Pajek (de Nooy, Mrvar and Batagelj), from which this version was obtained.

The network has the following properties:

  • Nodes: name, the name of the computer scientist, followed by the year of the PhD when known; year, the (known or estimated) year in which the PhD was obtained.
