davis_southern_women — Davis Southern women social events (1941)
- Description
The participation of 18 women in 14 informal social events in Natchez, Mississippi, in the 1930s, observed by A. Davis, B. B. Gardner and M. R. Gardner as part of their study of social class in a city of the US Deep South. This is one of the classic examples of a two-mode (affiliation) network, analyzed in many studies, e.g. Breiger (1974), Freeman (2003), and Wasserman and Faust (1994). This version was distributed by T. Opsahl.
A bipartite edge connects a woman to an event she attended.
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
is_woman, whether the node is a woman (otherwise it is an event);name, the first name of the woman (empty for the events, which are numbered in the order of the source data).
