email_enron_core — Enron core employee emails (1998-2002)

Description

A bipartite network of Enron employees and the emails they exchanged, constructed by Benson et al. from the Enron email corpus distributed by William Cohen at Carnegie Mellon University. The corpus contains the mailboxes of about 150 Enron employees, mostly senior management, which were made public by the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during its investigation of the company. Only the email addresses of a core set of 148 employees are included, and only emails sent by one of them to at least one other of them; recipients outside this set are not represented. Each email node is connected to its sender and to its recipients from the core set (the source data do not distinguish the sender from the recipients). The emails span November 1998 to June 2002. This is the version of the data without restriction on the number of participants (at most 37 per email). 431 emails have a single participant, i.e. an employee who emailed themselves. Five of the 148 addresses do not take part in any email and are not included.

The network has the following properties:

  • is_email, whether the node is an email (otherwise an employee).
  • Employee nodes: name, the email address of the employee.
  • Email nodes: time, the time the email was sent, in Unix time (seconds since 1970-01-01), converted from the millisecond timestamps of the source (the source does not document how the time zones of the original email headers were handled).
