jazz_collab — Jazz collaboration network
- Description
A collaboration network of jazz bands, compiled by P. Gleiser and L. Danon from The Red Hot Jazz Archive digital database. Nodes are the 198 bands in the database that performed between 1912 and 1940 (most of them in the 1920s), and an undirected edge connects two bands that have at least one musician in common. Since the database lists the musicians of each band without dates, the network has no temporal information; also, the same musician may appear under different names, and unknown musicians are all listed as "unknown". (The cited paper also studies the network among the 1,275 musicians, which is not included here.)
The network has the following properties:
name: the node number in the source data (band names are not included).
