korea_family_planning — Family planning in Korean villages (1973)

Description

Communication networks about family planning among women in two Korean villages, from the study of E. M. Rogers and D. L. Kincaid on the diffusion of family planning methods in Korean villages, which were surveyed in 1973. An edge connects two women who discussed family planning with each other. The data were distributed on the Pajek datasets page of the book Exploratory Social Network Analysis with Pajek (de Nooy, Mrvar and Batagelj), from which this version was obtained. (The background text on the dataset page of the Pajek site erroneously repeats the description of the sawmill dataset.)1

  • village1: the network of 39 women in the first village (Korea1.net).
  • village2: the network of 39 women in the second village (Korea2.net).

The networks have the following properties:

  • Nodes: name, the identifier of the woman in the original study; adopter, whether the woman adopted family planning methods (at least temporarily); club_member, whether the woman was a member of the local Mothers' Club.
