macaque_visual_cortex — Macaque visual cortex connectivity (Felleman-Van Essen, 1991)
- Description
Directed networks of anatomical connections among the visual areas of the macaque monkey cerebral cortex, from the compilation of Felleman and Van Essen, as distributed with the Brain Connectivity Toolbox (contributed by O. Sporns). Felleman and Van Essen collated the results of anatomical tract-tracing studies published until 1991 into a matrix of corticocortical pathways between the areas of their parcellation of the macaque cortex. Nodes are cortical areas (e.g. "V1", "MT", "LIP", "FEF" or "46") and a directed edge $i\to j$ indicates a reported axonal projection from area $i$ to area $j$ (an entry $a_{ij}=1$ of the source matrix, following the Brain Connectivity Toolbox convention).
fve30: 30 visual areas, including the frontal areas FEF and 46 associated with visual function; 311 connections.fve32: asfve30, with the two additional parietal areas MIP and MDP; 315 connections (the toolbox documentation states 320).
These matrices were used e.g. by Sporns et al. (Cereb. Cortex 10, 127, 2000) and Sporns and Kötter (PLoS Biol. 2, e369, 2004).
The networks have the following properties:
name: the name of the cortical area.
