marker_cafe — The Marker Cafe (2011)

Description

Anonymized snapshot of the connections among users of TheMarker Cafe, an Israeli online social networking site (associated with the business newspaper TheMarker) that allows its members to connect and interact; most of its members are Israeli and communicate in Hebrew. Nodes are users and edges are connections between them. The data were released by M. Fire and collaborators at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, who used them to evaluate link prediction methods, and correspond to around 2011, when their first study was published. How the data were collected is not documented.

The source file lists each connection only once, without any reciprocated pairs, and the network is treated as undirected. It contains 6 self-loops.

The network has the following properties:

  • name: the anonymized user ID from the source file.

* These are automatically generated force-directed visualizations, and can be quite meaningless for networks both big and small. They should not be taken seriously as sources of scientific insight. See here for a discussion.
