siren_togo — Siren and Togo stolen vehicle networks (1998-1999)
- Description
Networks of communication among participants in two stolen-vehicle exportation operations in Montreal, Canada, targeted by police investigations, from the appendix of Morselli's book "Inside Criminal Networks" (2009). Nodes are participants (numbered in
name), and an edge indicates communication exchanges between them, from police wiretapping.siren(44 nodes): Project Siren began in February 1998 when a port worker informed the police that a container of stolen vehicles had been shipped to Ghana; the shipment was seized at its transit point in Antwerp, Belgium. The investigation continued for four months (to June 1998), during which shipments destined for Russia, Egypt, Iraq, Italy and Switzerland were monitored, and 35 cars were retrieved.togo(33 nodes): Project Togo began when a Toronto-based ring was dismantled in 1998 and one of its participants informed the police about a Montreal businessman active in the resale of stolen vehicles; the investigation ran from December 1998 to February 1999, and 20 cars destined for France, Ghana and local buyers were retrieved.
