colobus_monkeys — Colobus monkey greeting and grooming (2006)
- Description
Affiliative behavior among the ten members of a captive colony of black-and-white colobus monkeys (Colobus guereza), observed by N. Kutsukake, N. Suetsugu and T. Hasegawa (according to ICON, in 2003). Greeting was defined as non-sexual mounting, and was described by the authors as functioning as a tension-reducing mechanism in nonagonistic situations. The data were distributed by L. C. Freeman on his network data page at the University of California, Irvine (no longer online), from which this version was obtained via the Internet Archive.
The network has two directed layers, in which an edge (i, j) indicates that monkey i directed the behavior at monkey j:
greetinggrooming
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
name, the label of the monkey;sex(1: male, 2: female);age_grade(1: juvenile, 2: sub-adult, 3: adult). - Edges:
layer, the behavior;weight, the number of times the behavior was observed.
