dining_table — Dining-table partners in a girls' training school (1960)
- Description
Choices of dining-table partners among 26 girls living in one cottage (dormitory) of the New York State Training School for Girls in Hudson, New York, from the sociometric studies of J. L. Moreno and H. H. Jennings. Each girl was asked to choose the girls she would like to sit with at the dining table, and her first and second choices are recorded as directed edges from the choosing girl to the chosen one. The network was coded by W. de Nooy from a sociogram published in Moreno's The Sociometry Reader (1960). The data were distributed on the Pajek datasets page of the book Exploratory Social Network Analysis with Pajek (de Nooy, Mrvar and Batagelj), from which this version was obtained.1
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
name, the (first) name of the girl. - Edges:
choice, the rank of the choice (1: first choice, 2: second choice).
