slovene_parties — Slovene parliamentary parties (1994)
- Description
Perceived similarities between the ten Slovene parliamentary political parties in 1994, estimated by members of the Slovene National Parliament, from S. Kropivnik and A. Mrvar. In a questionnaire, the members of parliament were asked to estimate the distance between each pair of parties in the political space, on a scale from -3 (very dissimilar) to +3 (very similar). The estimates were given by 72 of the 90 members of parliament (17 were not available at the time of the interviews, and one refused); 64 respondents estimated all 45 pairs, and missing values were excluded. Nodes are the parties, and in this complete signed network every pair of parties is connected by an edge weighted by the average estimated similarity, multiplied by 100 and rounded. The data were distributed in Pajek format on the Pajek datasets page of V. Batagelj and A. Mrvar, from which this version was obtained.
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
name, the abbreviation of the party (SKD: Slovene Christian Democrats; ZLSD: Associated List of Social Democrats; SDSS: Social Democratic Party of Slovenia; LDS: Liberal Democratic Party; ZS-ESS: the first of two Green parties separated after the 1992 elections; ZS: the second Green party, which had no representatives in parliament at the time of the interviews; DS: Democratic Party; SLS: Slovene People's Party; SNS: Slovene National Party; SPS: a group of deputies, former members of SNS, separated after the 1992 elections). - Edges:
weight, the average estimated similarity of the two parties, multiplied by 100 (from -300 to 300).
