world_cup_players — World Cup 1998 player transfers (1998)
- Description
The international market of soccer players, as seen through the 22 national teams that participated in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, compiled by L. Krempel. Players of a national team often have contracts with clubs in other countries; the members of the 22 teams had contracts in 35 countries in total. A directed edge points from the country of a national team to a country in which some of its players had contracts (i.e. the countries "exporting" and "importing" players), weighted by the number of such players. The network is very asymmetric: some countries only export players, and others only import them. The data were distributed in Pajek format on the Pajek datasets page of V. Batagelj and A. Mrvar, from which this version was obtained.
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
name, the three-letter code of the country. - Edges:
weight, the number of players of the national team with contracts in the target country.
