uc_irvine_messages — UC Irvine student messages (2004)
- Description
A directed network of the private messages sent among the users of an online community for students at the University of California, Irvine (a Facebook-like social network site), collected by T. Opsahl and P. Panzarasa. The messages were sent between April and October 2004, and the data include all the users (1,899) who sent or received at least one message. Each directed edge is a message from its sender to its recipient, so that multiple messages between the same pair of users are kept as multiple edges (59,835 messages among 20,296 ordered pairs of users). The source data also contain one self-loop per user, which marks the time when the user registered on the site; these are not included as edges, but as a node property. User attributes (e.g. gender, age, course attended) exist but were not released, to protect the anonymity of the users.
The network has the following properties:
- Nodes:
id, the number of the user in the source data;registered, the time when the user registered on the site, as Unix time. - Edges:
time, the time when the message was sent, as Unix time;chars, the number of characters in the message.
The source data give the dates and times without a time zone; they were interpreted as UTC.
